CMS-approved MDS 3.0 Final Section S Items

Overview

“The tables list the Section S items that will be active on MDS 3.0 records with a target date on or after October 1, 2023.

The active item on each item subset code (ISC) is marked with a “Y”. The item marked with an “N” for the ISC is not active.

The specifications for each item are in the MDS 3.0 Data Submission Specifications available on the CMS MDS 3.0 Technical Information page at http://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient- Assessment-Instruments/NursingHomeQualityInits/NHQIMDS30TechnicalInformation.html.

There are new Section S items being added for 2023. These items are: S0200A, S0200B, S6060A, S6060B, S6060C, S6300, S6301, S6302, S6303A, S6303B, S6303C, S6303D, S6304A, S6304B, S6304C, S6304D, S6304E, S6304F, S6304G, S6304H, S6304I, S6305A, S6305B, S7001, S7002, S7500A, S7500B, S7500C, S7500D, S7500E, S7500F, S7500G, S7500H

Please read the MDS 3.0 Data Specifications and any information provided by the state collecting the items for information on the changes.”
