Describe my most memorable vacation

Daily writing prompt
Describe your most memorable vacation.

This should be an easy one for me because I am grateful that I have been able to travel. You would think that there should be one that stands out the most but really for me they all were memorable and special in their own way.

I have vacationed with different people through the different stages and I am grateful for all the memories we made.

I grew up in a family of 7 children so we didn’t travel as children. I think our vacations would have been classified as staycation if someone coined that phrase in my childhood.

“A staycation (a portmanteau of “stay” and “vacation”), or holistay (a portmanteau of “holiday” and “stay”), is a period in which an individual or family stays home and participates in leisure activities within day trip distance of their home and does not require overnight accommodation.”

I maybe went to my Dad’s sisters’ lake vacation home that was within driving distance 1 or 2 times in my life as a child. That did not mean we were deprived because life in our house was fun. Summertime was about staying out until the streetlight turned on, riding our bikes and exploring with our friends. We also had the typical water fights, rock fights using metal trash can lids as our armour. I know that sounds crazy but basically our neighborhoods were our safe havens. Every parent had the ok to reel in any child that they thought was not being kind or was disrespectful. You never wanted to be on someones list that your parent was told about.

Let’s get back to the question…..

I loved my travels with my college friends. Saint Martin was my first adventure as my graduation present to myself. We were 22 and thought we were wordly traveling without a parent. We had a blast and that was the beginning of wanting to travel more.

I loved my honeymoon with my soul mate. Again how can I pick one over the over.

I loved once I became a parent and then traveled with my children and making more memories.

Now is the best part. I get to continue my adventures with my children, their spouses and my grandchildren. How lucky am I to continue to spend precious moments with them. I am grateful that they enjoy still being with us at this time in their busy lives.

So, I would say all of them in each phase of my life were the most memorable because I wouldn’t trade any of them for any other event. It is about the people who show up in your life for the season that you are in them.

Cherish all the moments that you were able to have a positive experience on. Thank those people in your life that contributed to a happy memory and when you are having an off day, remember the memory to help put a smile back on your face.

So go out there and be that person who helps others make beautiful memories.
